A panic attack is a sudden flow of huge anxiety and fear. An individual who experience this may even feel like dying or going crazy suddenly. Panic attacks may lead to panic disorder and other problems if not treated at right time. They may even withdraw an individual from normal activities. Panic attacks often strike anywhere and at any time but mostly when an individual is away from home. It may happen while shopping, walking, driving car or sitting in the hall at home. The signs and symptoms of a panic attack develop suddenly and generally reach their peak within 10 minutes. Most panic attacks end within 20 to 30 minutes and rarely last more than an hour.
Warning signs of Panic Disorder
- Shortness of breath or hyperventilation
- Chest pain or discomfort
- Trembling or shaking
- Bitter feeling
- Feel detached from surroundings
- Nausea or upset stomach
- Wobble / faint
- Fear of dying or going crazy
Many people experience panic attacks without further episodes or complications. However some people have experienced panic attacks, leads to develop panic disorder which is differentiated by repeated panic attacks combined with massive change in behavior or constant anxiety of having further attacks.
One may be suffer with Panic Disordered if they
- Experience frequent, unexpected panic attacks that are not attached to a specific situation
- Lot of fear of having another attack
- Indifferent behaviors like avoiding places where they were panicked
